Anisul-Mosharraf-Chakhari remanded, Tureen Afroz shown arrested in new case

A Dhaka court placed former housing and public works minister engineer Mosharraf Hossain and Bangladesh People’s Party chairman Babul Sardar Chakhari on a three-day remand each in an attempt to murder case.
The court also placed former law minister Anisul Huq on a five-day remand in a case filed over the killing of garment waste (jhut) trader Monir during the July-August mass uprising.
Meanwhile, the court showed arrested former prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Barrister Tureen Afroz in a case lodged over the murder of madrasa student Arafat Hossain during the July-August mass uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M Mejbah Ur Rahman passed the orders on Wednesday (June 18).
According to the case documents of Mosharraf Hossain and Babul Sardar Chakhari, Gono Odhikar Parishad leader Badrul Islam Saimon joined a grand rally declared by BNP and its allies in the capital on October 28, 2023. The rally came under attack, and Saimon got shot in the incident. He filed the case on April 29, 2025, with the Paltan Model Police Station against 245, including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to the case documents of Anisul Huq, Monir joined student-people rally in the Shahbagh area on August 5, 2024. He was shot when the rally came under attack at noon. Monir succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Monir’s widow filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on March 14, 2025.
According to the case documents, Arafat, 12, a student of Jamia Rowjatul Ulm Madrasa in Uttara Sector-5, got shot on August 5 as he joined an anti-discrimination rally in the area. He died of his injuries at Combined Military Hospital in the capital on December 22.
Arafat’s elder brother Md Hasan Ali, 21, filed the case with the Uttara West Police Station.
Barrister Tureen Afroz was arrested at her Uttara home on April 7, 2025 and was shown arrested in a murder attempt case. She was placed on a four-day remand in that case.
