2 drivers of Mayur-2 arrested over Buriganga launch capsize

A team of River Police arrested two drivers of MV Mayur-2 launch in a case filed in connection with the Buriganga launch capsize that occurred on June 29.

The River Police arrested engine driver Shipon Hawlader and driver Shakil Hasan from Dhaka's Sutrapur area on Wednesday (July 15) morning.

Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge (OC) of River Police of Sadarghat Terminal, confirmed the matter to risingbd.

Earlier, owner of Mayur-2 launch Mosaddek Hanif Soad, supervisor of the launch Abdus Salam and master of the launch Abul Bashar Mollah were arrested in connection with the case.

At least 34 people were killed when a small launch sank in the Buriganga River. The larger Mayur-2 launch in reverse, horrifically crashed into it near Farashganj Ghat in Dhaka on June 29, leaving the nation shocked.

On June 30, a day after the launch capsize, SI Shamsul Alam of Sadarghat River Police station filed a case against seven people with South Keraniganj police station, including the owner of Mayur-2 launch.
