25.9 lakh people unemployed in Bangladesh: BBS

The number of unemployed people in the country stood at 25.90 lakh during the first quarter (January-March) of this year, according to a survey of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The BBS survey on the country’s workforce was released at a press conference in the capital on Tuesday (May 2). State minister for planning Dr Shamsul Alam was present as the chief guest at the press conference.

Of the number of unemployed people, 17.10 lakh are male and 8.80 lakh are female, the BBS estimate has found.

The BBS calculated that the number of workforce stood at 7.37 crore under the survey. Of them, 4.82 crore are male and 2.54 crore are female.
