3 HuJI leaders placed on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court put the leader of the banned militant outfit Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami (HuJI) Atikullah alias Asadullah alias Julfikar and two others on four-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam passed the order after hearing on Thursday.

The two other accused are- Borhan Uddin Rabbani and Mohammad Nazim Uddin alias Shamim.

Earlier, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of police Inspector Md Kamruzzaman produced the accused before the court seeking 10 days remand.

According to the case statement, the accused are members of banned militant outfit Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami (HuJI). Atikullah went Myanmar and joined Rohingya militants group in 1992. Later, he went to Afghanistan from Pakistan in 1997 and met then Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden. Recently, he returned to Bangladesh and tried to bring their absconding members back to the Islamist outfit.

On Wednesday night, detectives arrested the HuJI leader and his two cohorts in Dhaka.
