37 more onion importers grilled

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) under National Board of Revenue (NRB) has grilled representatives of 37 top importers of the essential cooking ingredient onion.

Staff of CIID began interrogation around 10.30am on Tuesday at its headquarters in the city.
Md Shahidul Islam, director general of the CIID, confirmed the matter.

On Monday, CIID grilled representatives of 14 top importers. Earlier, the CIID summoned them seeking information about their stock and selling prices of onion.

On Sunday, the agency issued separate letters to some 47 onion importing firms asking them to appear before the CID office in Dhaka and participate in a hearing.
