4 killed in separate ‘gunfights’ in 3 districts

Three suspected drug peddlers, including two Rohingya men, and a robber have been killed in three separate ‘gunfights’ with BGB, police and RAB in Cox's Bazar, Kushtia and Chattogram.

The gunfights took place from Friday night and Saturday morning.

In Chattogram, 'robber' Sher Ali was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Saral area under Banshkhali upazila on Saturday morning.

On a tip off, a patrol team of RAB went there to conduct a drive this morning, said Md Mahmudul Hassan, assistant director (media) of RAB-7.

Sensing the presence of elite force, the group of robbers opened fire on law enforcers, forcing them to take action in self defence, he said.

After the gunfight, the robbers fled and law enforcers recovered the bullet hit body of Sher Ali.

In Cox’s Bazar, two suspected Rohingya drug traders have been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB).

The gunfight took place at Nhilla union under Teknaf upazila early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Md Ferdous, 30, son of Habib Ullah at Balukhali Rohingya camp, and Abdus Salam, 35, son of late Syed Ahmed.

BGB-2 Battalion Commander Lt. Col Mohammad Foisal Hasan Khan confirmed the matter.

He said on information, a team of BGB men conducted a drive in the area. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to back fire, triggering the gunfight that left the duo bullet injury.

They were taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors referred them to Sadar Hospital. However, they were declared dead at the district hospital.

BGB also recovered 2,10,000 Yaba tablets, one gun and one local weapon from the spot, he said.

BGB claimed that three members of the force were also injured in the gunfight.

In Kushtia, a suspected drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police on Friday midnight.

The deceased was identified as Kudrat Ali Mandol, 50, son of late Niamat Ali Mandol at Munshiganj village under Ramkrishnapur union in Doulatpur upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Doulatpur Thana SM Arifur Rahman said on information, a team of policemen conducted a drive in the area. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to back fire, triggering the gunfight that left one bullet injury and other managed to flee from the spot.

He was taken to Doulatpur Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors declared him dead.

Police claimed that three members of the force also were injured in the gunfight and Kudrat Ali Mandol was accused in six cases.
