5 killed in gas cylinder blast in capital

At least five people were killed and 11 others injured critically as a gas cylinder exploded in Rupnagar Residential area of Mirpur in the capital on Wednesday.

The deceased were known as Ramzan, Nupur, Nahin, Farzana and another one remained unidentified.

The gas cylinder exploded when a vendor was inflating balloons in the area around 3:00pm. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. Later, the bodies were sent to Suhrawardy Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Abdul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) Rupnagar Police Station said the incident took place in front of Monipur School, leaving four children and a woman dead on the spot.
