District Correspondent, TANGAIL, Feb 12: Five members of Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were killed and 14 others injured in a mortar shell blast during a training program at Ghatail in Tangail on Wednesday noon.
Among the injured seven were in very critical condition. They were flown to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Army helicopter immediately after the explosion.
The accident took place when BGB members were undergoing a firing training at Midharchala field firing range around 12.00pm.
Among the dead victims, two are army personnel while the rest are BGB members.
The deceased army personnel are identified as Senior Warrant Officer Manjur ( 4 East Bengal) and Senior Warrant Officer Perveez (20 East Bengal) while the BGB men are Sipahi Abu Sufian (3 BGB), Shipahi Ekram (3 BGB) and Lance Corporal Mohammad Ali (3 BGB).
OC of Ghatail Police Station Fazlul Kabir said the mortar shell blasted when two Warrant Officers of Bangladesh Army were giving training to the BGB members who came from Joypurhat.
