6.0 earthquake hits Indonesia

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Indonesia.

The tremor was felt south of Buru Island in the Moluccas Islands, which is in the eastern part of the country.

It has a depth of 10km and was about 125km south of the shoreline.

It is not expected to trigger a tsunami, according to the official Twitter of the country’s meteorology, climatology and geophysical agency.

Indonesia sits on the seismically active Pacific “Ring of Fire” and often suffers deadly earthquakes and tsunamis.

There was no initial report of damage as a result of the Buru Island quake.
