ATM Shamsul Huda
Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda has passed away (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un).
He was 83.
He breathed his last around 9:00am on Saturday at his residence in Gulshan of the capital. He was later taken to United Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
He left behind his wife and a daughter to mourn his death. His daughter is currently staying in the United States.
According to family sources, his namaz-e-janaza will be held once his daughter returns from the United States.
ATM Shamsul Huda served as the Chief Election Commissioner who oversaw the ninth parliamentary election in Bangladesh, held on December 29 in 2008. The national election during his tenure is considered one of the peaceful and participatory elections in the country’s history.
