BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said, “A part of the interim government is adopting various immoral tactics.”
Tarique made the remarks while virtually addressing a protest meeting titled “Hellish July”, organised by BNP at Ashulia in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, on Wednesday.
Tarique Rahman said, “Fascist evil forces are waiting to be rehabilitated in the state politics. Any wrong decision by the government can fall democracy into crisis. Along with this, fascism and extremism can also raise their heads.”
“The people of this country have not waged a movement for the last one and a half decades, nor sacrificed their lives during the mass uprising in July, just to hand over power to a few individuals. They overthrew authoritarianism and laid down their lives to establish their rightful place in the state and government. Therefore, no matter who holds power, the government must heed the voices of its citizens,” he said.
He said, “I believe that one of the principal means by which a citizen exercises political power is through elections. To ensure that every citizen can speak for themselves, BNP, as a responsible political party, has consistently prioritised free and fair elections.”
