7 lakh people marooned in Kurigram

Kurigram Correspondent: Around seven lakh people in Kurigram district have been stranded in flooded areas amid heavy downpour and swollen rivers in last 10 days.

Brahmaputra, Dharla, Dudhkumar and Jijinram rivers still flow above their respective danger levels.

Local water development board said that the Brahmaputra was flowing 115 cm above the danger level at the Chilmari point while the Dharla was flowing 91 cm above the red mark at the Bridge point.

With the embankment dam collapse in Rowmari, Rajibpur and Chilmari upazilas, innumerable villages flooded. Over seven lakh people of nine upazilas are marooned. The flood affected people are facing food and drinking water crisis.
