7 to walk gallows for killing woman after rape

A court in Joypurhat has sentenced seven persons to death for killing a woman after raping her in Akkelpur upazila in 2016.

Joypurhat Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Dr ABM Mahmudul Haque passed the order on Tuesday noon.  

The accused are – Sohel Talukdar, Afzal Hossain, Rahin, Derdaus Ali, Mazibur Rahman, Ruhul Amin and Azizar Rahman.

The court also fined Tk 5 lakh each to two of the convicts and Tk 1 lakh to five others.  

According to the case statement, on October 8, 2016, the accused raped the victim named Arati Rani and fled the scene. Later, the woman was taken to hospital but she died on the way to hospital.
