‘98% of medicine being produced in country’

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said, currently 98 percent of medicine of country’s demand are being met by local producers. Besides, medicines are being exported in many countries of the globe.

The speaker made the assertion while addressing a discussion program organized by Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh at Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Thursday.

She said pharmacists are working relentlessly in medicine research, production, marketing and application sectors providing intensive labour and merit to ensure better health service.

“Pharmaceutical sector is highly important in the context of national economy. The skilled pharmacists are providing health service. If the pharmaceutical sector can be utilized, the base of country's economy will be strengthened,” she added.

Meanwhile, the speaker urged doctors and pharmacists to work jointly to ensure universal health service.

Pharmacy Council president also secretary of the Health Service Division, Md Asadul Islam presided over the program where health minister Jahid Malek, Minister for the Ministry of Public Administration Farhad Hossain and others spoke on the occasion.
