AL chalks up programmes to mark ‘Shaheed Dibash’

Bangladesh Awami League has drawn up elaborate programmes in observance of ‘Shaheed Dibash’ (Language Martyrs Day) and International Mother Language Day on Friday (February 21) with due respect.

The ruling party leaders will place wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar immediately after placing of wreaths by the President and the Prime Minister at one minute past zero hour on Friday, according to an AL press release issued by office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua today.

Biplob Barua said, “The AL will start the day’s programmes at 6:30 in the morning by lowering the party and the national flag at half-mast at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi 32 and at all the branch offices of the party. Black flag will be hoisted at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi 32 and all the branch offices of the party."

Leaders and activists of different units of AL will wear badges at 7:00am, bring out processions with barefoot and pay tribute at the graves of martyrs at Azimpur graveyard before placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar.

As part of the programmes, AL will hold a discussion at Bangabandhu International Convention Centre (BICC) on February 22 at 3:00 pm.

AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over the discussion while noted intellectuals and national leaders will speak at the programme.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader has urged party leaders, members and activists to observe the day in a befitting manner.
