‘AL men infected with corona as they are working for people’

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League, cabinet members, members of parliament (MPs) and representatives of different levels have been infected with coronavirus as they are working for people in the field.

The AL joint general secretary told this to the reporters at AL president’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital on Friday afternoon.

Hasan Mahmud said, “Under the directives made by Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, party leaders and activists, cabinet members and members of parliament (MPs), and representatives at various levels have been conducting relief operations in aiming to protect people and assist them, since the very begging of coronavirus pandemic. That is why we can see that many leaders and activists, including AL central leaders, have been infected with the coronavirus.”

“Especially, veteran leader Mohammad Nasim, State Minister Religious Affairs Sheikh Abdullah and former Sylhet City Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran died of coronavirus. The main reason for this is they were working for people and in doing so they were infected coronavirus,” he added.

In reply to query over being infected of BNP leaders, he said, “We never expect that someone to be infected. We expect all BNP leaders, we and people stay healthy. At the same time, it is true that those who are working in the field for people are being infected and on high-risk of being infection.”
