Senior Correspondent: The ruling Awami League (AL) has started to issue show cause notices against the leaders who opposed ‘boat’ (election symbol) in recently concluded upazila polls.
In first phase, 177 rebels were served show cause notices. More notices will be issued gradually, according to sources of the party’s Dhanmondi office.
The party sources said the letter asked rebels as to why you should not be expelled from the party permanently for violating the party nomination. The letters were sent to permanent addresses of the rebels. They were asked to reply within next 15 days.
Current and former MPs, Ministers and Deputy Ministers are also among the leaders who were issued show cause notices.
Earlier on Saturday, AL general secretary, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader discussed the matter with the party joint secretaries and organizational secretaries for the final decision.
Polls were held in 473 upazilas of the country in five phases. Of the upazilas, 149 independent candidates won the chairman race. Of them, 143 are AL rebel candidates.
