Abdul Awal Mintoo, Shimul Biswas held

Staff Correspondent, DHAKA, Nov 9: Hours after arresting three BNP standing committee members, police also detained adviser to BNP Chairperson Abdul Awal Mintoo and her special assistant Shimul Biswas.

The opposition leaders were arrested at around 1am early on Saturday night when they were coming out of the chairperson’s house.

Members of police who were deployed around BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office and residence hours after the BNP-led 18-party alliance announced a 72-hour countrywide shutdown on Friday arrested Mintoo and Shimul.

Earlier, detective branch of police (DB) arrested BNP standing committee members MK Anwar, Barrister Moudud Ahmad and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia from in front of Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Friday night.

Police also raided the houses of more two leaders Mirza Abbas and Goyeshwar Chandra Roy on Friday night.
