Abrar murder: 8 accused file bail plea

Eight accused have filed bail petitions with a Dhaka court in the case filed over the death of BUET student Abrar Fahad Rabbi.

Lawyers for the accused filed the bail petition in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes on Tuesday. Hearing in this regard will be held on January 30.

The accused who filed bail petitions are Mehedi Hasan Rasel, Amit Saha, Mehedi Hasan Robin, Ifti Mosharraf Sokal, Ishtiak Ahmed Munna, Muntasir Al Jemi, Akash Hossain and Morshed Amartya Islam.

The court today accepted the charge sheet against 25 accused and fixed January 30 for the hearing on it.

Abrar, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department of BUET, died after he was allegedly beaten by some Chhatra League men brutally at a dormitory of the university.

The incident triggered a firestorm of protests on campuses across the country. Many took to social media to demand justice for Abrar.
