Advocate Yunus to file writ over JP crisis

Staff Correspondent: The dispute between two groups in the Jatiya Party (JP) has reached a critical juncture after departure of the party founder HM Ershad.

With Ershad's wife Raushan Ershad in the forefront, JP senior leaders Anisul Islam Mahmud, Mashiur Rahman Ranga are leading one group while while Ershad's younger brother GM Quader is leading the other.

Raushan Ershad and GM Quader are speaking contrary to become opposition leader in the parliament.

In this circumstances, Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Dr Yunus Ali Akand is set to file a writ petition with High Court (HC) seeking its directives to resolve JP crisis.

Yunus Ali Akand contested in the 11th national parliamentary election for the Dhaka-8 constituency from JP.

He told risingbd that he would file a writ in this regard on Sunday.

He said, “The writ will seek directives on who will be successor of Ershad and Chairman of Jatiya Party.”

“Thousands of leaders and activists of JP now feel discomfort about the crisis. As a party activist and well-wisher, I’m going to file a writ to resolve the crisis,” he added.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Speaker and others concerned will be made complainants in the writ, he said.
