Allocation for health sector increased by Tk 3,500 cr

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has proposed to increase the allocation for health services and health education by Tk 3,500 crore.
The minister made the proposal in the national budget placed in the Parliament on Thursday afternoon.
He said, “I’m proposing an allocation of Tk 29,247 crore for the health sector in the budget for FY2020-21, which was Tk 25,733 crore for 2019-2020 fiscal year.”
The allocation has been proposed for the health and family welfare sector on consideration of the measures taken to combat the infection of Covid-19 on a priority basis.
The Minister said it needs to be mentioned here that 13 ministries/divisions are implementing activities related to health and family welfare.
He further said the allocation for this purpose in the upcoming fiscal year is Tk 41,027 crore, which is 1.3% of GDP and took the allocation to 7.2% of the total budget allocations.
