‘Amphan’ intensifies into severe cyclonic storm

The tropical cyclone ‘Amphan’ has turned into cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal.

According to Meteorological Department of Bangladesh on Sunday, the cyclonic storm Amphan was centred 1325 km south-southwest of Chattogram port, 1260 km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1250 km south-southwest of Mongla port And 1230 km South-Southwest of Pyra Port.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction.

According to Meterologist Aftab Uddin, the maximum sustained wind speed within 64km of the cyclone centre is about 89 kph rising to 117 kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre.

As results, Bangladesh Meteorological Department has asked all maritime ports to hoist signal 4.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north bay and deep sea have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
