Assam reports its first Covid-19 death

A 65-year-old man from Hailakandi district has become the first casualty of the novel coronavirus in Assam.

The 65-year-old died at Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) early Friday morning, health officials said.

The man, with travel history to Saudi Arabia, had tested Covid-19 positive on April 7.

Assam health minister HimantaBiswaSarma tweeted that the 65-year-old Covid-19 patient from Hailakandi district passed away due to complication of infection.

The Assam health minister added that that the man had also visited NizamuddinMarkaz in March.

So far, Assam has reported 29 positive cases of Covid-19.
