‘Attack carried out to weaken police morale’

Monirul Islam, the chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said police members were attacked at five places in the capital to weaken their morale.

The two arrested militants confessed their involvement with the incident during the preliminary interrogation.

The CTTC chief came up with the information at a press conference held at the DMP's Media Center in the capital on Monday noon.

“Jamal Uddin Rafiq and Anower Hossain were arrested during a raid conducted at Shonir Akhra in the capital on Sunday night. In the primary interrogation, they admitted that they were the active members of Neo JMB. They were directly involved in the bombing on the policemen at five places in Dhaka city,” Monirul said.

He said, “The duo arrested were the students of KUET. They earned some money through outsourcing. They masterminded plans to carry out attacks with that money.”
