Auranga buried at Banani graveyard

DHAKA, Aug 4: Former MP KM Hemayet Ullah Auranga who along with five others was killed in a road accident in Munshiganj on Saturday was laid to eternal rest in the capital on Sunday.
Auranga, also a BNP executive committee member, was buried at Banani Graveyard in the afternoon after six namaz-e-janazas held in the capital and Shariatpur.
Auranga met the tragic end of his life with five others as a jeep they were travelling in collided head-on with a bus in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj on Saturday afternoon.
The other deceased were identified as Jubo Dal joint general secretary SM Nuruzzaman, 45, Swechchhasebak Dal assistant office secretary Munshi Jamal Uddin, 50, BNP leader Mohammad Yeasin Halder, 45, Shariatpur district Swechchhasebak Dal leader Hazrat Ali, 45 and BNP leader Nuruddin Sheikh, 45.
The first janaza for Auranga was held in front of Kathalbagan Mosque in the capital while the second one at the South Plaza of parliament and the third one in front of the BNP’s central office at Nayapaltan.
After the janaza in front of BNP’s central office, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Mirza Abbas, senior vice-chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka and joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, on behalf of their party chairperson, placed wreaths on the coffin of the former MP.
They also draped Auranga’s coffin with the national and party flags as a mark of last respects to him.
A special munajat was also offered seeking divine blessings for salvation of the departed soul.
Later, his body was taken to Shariatpur by a helicopter where three more janazas were held.
The sixth and last janaza was held at Shariatpur Stadium around 4pm.
Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali, Awami League organising secretary and MP from Shariatpur-1 constituency BM Mozammel Haque and former BNP MP Sarder AKM Nasiruddin Kalu, among others, attended the janaza.
Later, his body was again flown to the capital for burial.
Auranga was elected MP from the constituency twice -– first in 1991 on Awami League ticket and in 2001 as an independent candidate.
He contested the 2008 national election on a BNP ticket and lost to Awami League candidate Abdur Razzak.
