Australia announce 14-man squad for ODI series against India

Cricket Australia (CA) announced the new 14-man squad that will travel to India for a three-match ODI series scheduled to be held in January 2020, on Tuesday.

So they have brought major changes to the Australian squad which played the ICC World Cup 2019, the likes of Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Nathan Lyon, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Glenn Maxwell have been dropped whereas Jason Behrendorff was not picked due to ongoing injury issues.

Adam Zampa and Ashton Turner will be Australia’s spin duo with Labuschagne being the third spin bowling option if needed. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Sean Abbott, Kane Richardson and Josh Hazlewood complete a strong-looking pace battery.

"The performance of the top order at home through the T20 series was very strong so we look for that to continue in the Indian ODI series," said national selector Trevor Hohns.

On dropping Maxwell, who returns after a short break from cricket due to mental issues, Hohns said it has been a disappointing last year for the experienced all-rounder and his performances in Big Bash League 2019-20 will be closely monitored.

Australia squad: Aaron Finch (c), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey (vc), Pat Cummins (vc), Peter Handscomb, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne, Kane Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Ashton Turner, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

First ODI: January 14, Mumbai
