Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) has directed all its member factory owners to pay 60 percent salary of workers for the month of April.
The directive was given through an order signed by BKMEA president AKM Selim Osman on Saturday.
It was stated in the order that production had remained completely suspended in April due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, garment factory owners and workers were both affected. In such a situation, a tripartite meeting was held among the government, factory owners and workers' leaders to protect the interest of both parties.
According to the decision of the meeting, the BKMEA has asked all its member factories to pay 60 percent of the salaries of workers for the month of April.
If any garment factory owner does not follow the directive, the BKMEA will not take any responsibility if any labour unrest arises.
