BNP procession allegedly baton charged

Police have allegedly charged batons on a procession organised by BNP in Mirpur area of the capital Dhaka on Saturday, leaving party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and its nine leaders and activists injured.

The incident took place in Kacha Bazar area of Mirpur 6 in the capital around 10:00 am on Saturday, Rizvi said.

He said, “Leaders and activists of BNP brought out a procession from Mirpur 6. Police charged batons on them when the procession was heading towards the main thoroughfare which left several including me injured.”

BNP organised the procession, led by Rizvi, demanding release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia and withdrawal of cases filed against its acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
