BNP leader Salauddin detained at jail gate

Detectives have picked up BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed on release from jail after over one month of his arrest in four criminal cases.

Officials at the Detective Branch of police told The Daily Star that the BNP leader was detained at the gate of Dhaka Central Jail on Thursday afternoon.

Forman Ali, senior superintendent at the jail, said Salauddin walked out of the prison around 3:55pm after he had secured bail from the High Court in the cases filed for vandalism and assaulting police.

The BNP leader had earlier been arrested on April 8 at his residence at the capital’s Gulshan.

The main opposition BNP later in the afternoon protested the arrest of Salauddin Ahmed.

Shamsuzzaman Dudu, an adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, came up with the protest while speaking at a media briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
