Badal’s first janaza held

The first namaz-e-janaza of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader Moinuddin Khan Badal, also a Member of Parliament from Chattogram-8 constituency, was held on the premises of Jatiya Sangsad in Dhaka on Saturday morning.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury paid rich tributes to valiant freedom fighter and parliament member by placing wreaths on his coffin at South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban.

After placing the wreath, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Badal.

Flanked by senior leaders and parliament members of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, laid another wreath on the coffin on behalf of the party.

On behalf of President M Abdul Hamid, his military secretary placed a wreath on the coffin of Badal.

Members of parliament and leaders of different political parties participated in the janaza.
The body is being taken to Chattogram by road due to bad weather. After three namaz-e-janazas there, the deceased will be buried at his family graveyard in Boalkhali.

Born in 1952 at the village of Saroyatoli in Boalkhali upazila, Moinuddin Khan Badal started politics with Chhatra League. In 1971, he actively took part in the liberation war of Bangladesh.
The veteran politician died on early Thursday while undergoing treatment in Bangalore of India.
