Bangladesh all out for 233 in first innings

Mohammad Mithun top-scored with 63 runs as Bangladesh made 233 runs before they were all out in first innings of the first Test against Pakistan before stumps were drawn on the opening day in Rawalpindi on Friday.

Pacer Shaheen Afridi led Pakistan’s bowling attack with 4-53 while Mohammad Abbas and Haris Sohail also chipped in with two crucial wickets each.

The regular strikes of Pakistani bowlers did not allow Bangladesh to build any significant stand despite quite a few of the visiting batsmen getting a start.

Mithun and Taijul Islam shared 53 runs for the seventh wicket to defy the attack after Bangladesh resumed the post tea session with 172-6.

Sohel ended Taijul’s defiant innings of 24 runs and Bangladesh lost the remaining three wickets for 19 runs get folded in the first innings.

A sense of deja vu gripped Bangladesh when they lost both the openers for just three after Pakistan captain Azhar Ali won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Debutant opener Saif Hasan suffered a second ball duck giving a catch to Asad Shafiq at second slip off Shaheen Afridi in the very first over of the innings.

Tamim Iqbal, who made a record triple hundred in first-class cricket earlier this week, fell in the next over for three runs after Pakistan successfully reviewed a leg-before appeal of Abbas.

Nazmul and Mominul Haque put 59 runs for the third wicket to stave off further damage.

Shaheen broke the stand forcing Mominul to give a catch behind the stumps after the Bangladesh skipper made 30 runs.

Nazmul got dismissed in the first over after lunch break off Abbas after making 44 runs while Mahmudullah was removed by Afridi on 25, which held Bangladesh to 107-5.

Liton Das and Mohammad Mithun then added 54 runs for the sixth wicket to take Bangladesh score over 150-run mark before Sohail dismissed Liton for 33 to break the stand.

Mithun and Taijul then took Tigers took past 200-run mark before Pakistan struck back.
