Bangladesh to be first to get corona vaccine for free

Health Services Division Secretary M A Mannan has expressed his hope that Bangladesh will be first to get coronavirus vaccine for free when once it is invented.

He came up with the expectation at a virtual meeting of Health Ministry on Monday.

Earlier, he held a virtual meeting with Advisory Committee on Covid-19 Control.

The secretary said, ‘According to rules of the World Health Organization (WHO), the countries with a per capita income of less than $4,000 will get the vaccine for free. As the per capita income of people of Bangladesh is nearly 2,000, we will get the vaccine for free. We are trying our best so that Bangladesh gets it first. The government has a plan to gradually distribute the vaccine among 80 percent of the country’s people. At the same time, the government will take appropriate steps for the process of bringing in vaccines.

He further said a task force will be formed quickly to control the chaotic situation in health sector and the image crisis that has been created in the sector will be overcome.
