Bangladesh’s Test cricket step into 20th year

On November 10, 2000, Bangladesh started playing Test cricket. From then, Bangladesh moved ahead through various kinds of ups and down. Bangladesh Test cricket is now matured.

Bangladesh put its mark on this day in 2000 in arena of Test cricket. The national team played their first Test match against India at Bangabandhu National Stadium. Naimur Rahman Durjoy, led Bangladesh in the inaugural Test, while Sourav Ganguly, captained the Indian side.

Bangladesh scored 400 runs in their first Test. On the other hand, cricket giant like Australia, England team could not score 300 runs in their Test debut. Bangladesh became only the second team after Zimbabwe to post over 400 in the inaugural Test.   

Bangladesh played so far 115 Tests, of which the team won only 13. Bangladesh lost 86 matches while got draw in 16 games. The nation got taste of victory first in 2005 against Zimbabwe at Chattogram.

The overall statistics of Bangladesh Test cricket shows a shabby picture. Bangladesh is still struggling to make an impact in the longest version of the game. But, the team is moving forward gradually. Mushfiqur, Riyadh, Shakib, Tamim and Muminul are taking Bangladesh on the way to success.
