Blogger Avijit Roy’s father appears in court

Professor Dr. Ajoy Kumar Roy, the father of the slain writer-blogger Avijit Roy appeared in court to give testimony in the murder case.

The father gave the statement before the Anti-terrorism tribunal in Dhaka on Monday. Meanwhile, another witness also gave testimony in the Avijit Roy murder case. Later, the court fixed November 18 for next hearing in the case.

In the statement, Ajoy Roy said, “On February 26, 2015, the accused attacked my elder son Avijit Roy with lethal weapon around 8:00pm in front of Raju Memorial Sculpture near Dhaka University TSC. His wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya tried to save him but she was also attacked and received injuries. On information, we rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Avijit died.”

On August 1, charge was framed against six accused. The accused are- Major Syed Ziaul Haq Zia, Akram Hossain alias Hasib alias Adnan alias Abdullah, Abu Siddique Sohel, Mozammel Hussain alias Saimon, Arafat Rahman, and Shafiur Rahman Farabi. Of them, Zia and Farabi are on the run.
