Buriganga launch accident: Probe report prepared

The committee, formed by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) to probe the recent launch capsize incident in river Buriganga, has prepared its report.

The committee will submit its report on July 6, sources said.

The committee was given more time on Thursday to complete the job. BIWTA formed the committee initially asking it to submit the report in three days.

The deadline ended on Thursday but the committee could not complete the task, prompting it to plead for more time.

Morning Bird, a launch from Munshiganj, capsized within seconds in the river near Farashganj ghat after it was by Mayur 2, a Dhaka-bound launch from Chandpur, killing at least 34 people.

The authorities have filed a case against the owner and six employees of Mayur 2 with the Dakkhin Keraniganj police station.

According to sources, master of Mayur 2, has been blamed in the report for causing the incident.
