Buriganga launch capsize: Moyur-2 supervisor remanded

A Dhaka court has placed Abdus Salam, supervisor of MV Moyur-2, on a three-day remand in a case filed over the incident of launch capsize in Buriganga, killing 33 people.

Dhaka senior judicial magistrate Miskat Shukrana passed the order on Tuesday.

Earlier, Naval Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahidul Islam, also Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced him before the court and sought a five-day remand.

On June 29, a tiny Morning Bird Morning Bird, which was coming to Dhaka from Munshiganj, capsized in the river after it was hit by Chandpur-bound launch Moyur-2 near Sadarghat launch terminal, killing 33 people.

Sadarghat Police Station SI Mohammad Shamsul filed a case with Keraniganj Police Station against seven people including Moyur-2 owner on the night of June 30.

The accused are: MV Moyur-2 owner Mosaddek Hanif Soyad, 33, Master Abul Bashar Mollah, 65, Zakir Hossain, 39, Engine driver Shipon Hawlader, 45, driver Shakil Hossain, 28, Sukani Nasir Mridha, 40 and Sukani Hridoy, 24.
