Cabinet approves new consulate office in Florida

The cabinet has approved a proposal for setting up an office of the Consulate General in Florida of the USA in addition to the existing two consulate offices in New York and the embassy in Washington.

The approval was given at a regular weekly meeting at the Prime Minister's Office in Dhaka with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Monday.

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam made the disclosure while briefing the media at the Secretariat this noon.

He said that there three diplomatic missions of Bangladesh in USA. Of them, a consulate office at Washington DC, New York and Los Angeles. It is tough to provide service to the Bangladeshis living in 50 states of USA. So, the new consulate office in Florida was approved today.

The consulate will be very important to provide services to over 40,000 expatriate Bangladeshis living in Florida, he added.
