Coronavirus will sustain for over 3 years: Health directorate

"The situation triggered by coronavirus or COVID-19 will not go away in one, two or three months rather it will exist for the next two or three years, or more, in Bangladesh," said Prof Abul Kalam Azad, director general of health services.

He came up the comment while speaking at the daily COVID-19 bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday (June 18).

Analysing the globally achieved experience and Bangladesh situation on coronavirus, Prof Azad said, "High rate of infection may come down in Bangladesh after some days but hidden and dead cases may also be detected if the number of COVID-19 tests is increased. In this case, the number of infected people cannot be changed or visible."

The DG of health services said, "We will expand COVID-19 testing capacity further across the country, and set up rt-PCR laboratories at district level as early as possible."

“We have set a target to expand COVID-19 testing facilities down to upazila level,” Prof Azad added.

He urged all to strictly follow the health safety guidelines set by the government.
