Councillor's post of No. 9 ward declared vacant

The Ward No. 9 of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has become vacant as Councillor of the ward AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed was removed from the post on 17 October for his alleged involvement in casino business.

Ward No. 8 Councillor Md Sultan Mia will work as acting councillor of the ward, DSCC issued a letter in this regard.

Meanwhile, declaring ward No. 9 of the DSCC vacant, the Local Government Division on Sunday called on the Election Commission to take necessary steps to hold by-election to the ward.

According to the Section 16 of the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, if the post of a mayor or a councillor suddenly falls vacant before the tenure of the city corporation ends, the post will have to be filled within 90 days through holding by-election.
