Covid-19 death toll in Bangladesh crosses 2000 mark in 118 days

Death toll from coronavirus or Covid-19 has surpassed 2,000 mark in Bangladesh within 118 days since the country recorded its first Covid-19 case on March 8.

A total of 55 more people died of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 2,052 in the country.

Besides, a total of 2,738 more people tested positive for Covid-19 over the same period, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 1,62,417.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), disclosed the latest figures of deaths and infections in the daily online bulletin of DGHS on coronavirus situation in Dhaka on Sunday (July 5).

As many as 1,904 patients have recovered in last 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 72,625.

“We've carried out tests on 13,988 samples in 68 labs across the country and 2,738 more persons have been diagnosed with coronavirus. The total number of infections has risen to 1,62,417” she said.
