Dr Mir Mahbubul Alam passes away

Former director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital Dr Mir Mahbubul Alam died early Tuesday (May 12).

He was 72.

Mahbubul Alam, a renowned doctor, breathed his last early in the morning at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital while undergoing treatment.

Dr Mainul Islam Dalim, chief of the Anesthesia department of the hospital, confirmed his death to the media.

Mahbubul Alam had been suffering from liver cirrhosis, diabetes and kidney disease for a long day. He was admitted to the hospital in the city with cough and respiratory problem on Wednesday (May 7). He was tested for coronavirus several times but every time his report came back negative, confirmed Himangshu Lal Roy, deputy director of the hospital.

He was later shifted to the ICU after his condition deteriorated, the deputy director said.

Mahbubul Alam was also the former head of the surgery department of the hospital and Dean of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
