Staff Correspondent, DHAKA, May 9: The fifth death anniversary of renowned nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr M A Wazed Miah (Sudha Miah) is being observed in a befitting manner today (Friday).

 

He died in the capital`s Square Hospital on this day in 2009 after suffering from a number of diseases including blood pressure, complexity in kidney and lungs, and diabetes.

In Rangpur, Dr Wazed Smriti Sangshad (DWSS), district and city units of Awami League (AL), its Pirganj upazila unit, other organisations and institutions are observing the death anniversary of the brilliant son of this soil through daylong programs.


The programs include offering Fateha and placing of wreaths at the grave of Dr Wajed in his paternal village Fatehpur, milad mahfil at different mosques after Juma prayers.

 

In Dhaka, the programs include doa and milad mahfil at Sudha Sadan, Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue and different mosques after Johar and Asar prayers.


President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages marking his death anniversary.
    


Wazed Miah was born on February 16, 1942 in Rangpur. His nickname was Sudha Miah.



He married Sheikh Hasina on November 17, 1967.



In his early life he joined the Atomic Energy Commission as a physicist and became its chairman before he retired.
