Drug trader killed in Dhaka ‘gunfight’

An alleged ‘drug peddler’ has been killed in a ‘shootout’ with elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Agargaon area of Dhaka city.

The gunfight took place in front of National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Agargaon Link Road area early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Kabir, 45, who hailed from Shreepur upazila in Gazipur. RAB claimed that he was accused in at least 13 cases including drugs and firarms filed with different police stations.

Mohammed Mohiduddin Faruqe, a company commander of Rab-2, the elite force members signalled Kabir to stop his motorcycle at a check-post set up in Agargaon Link Road area. But Kabir opened fire at them, forcing the law enforcers to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

Kabir was hit by bullets during the exchange of fire and was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
