‘Enamul Basir tried to flee country’

Staff Correspondent: Suspended director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Khandaker Enamul Basir has sent to jail in a case filed over taking bribery from DIG Mizan.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judges Court of Dhaka passed the order after the ACC produced him before it on Tuesday.

Enamul was arrested from the capital’s Mirpur by a team of ACC officials led by Director Sheikh Fanafillah Bawas on Monday night.

In the petition, Investigation Officer (IO) Fanafillah said, “He was accused in the case on charge of taking Tk 40 lakh bribes from suspended DIG Mizanur Rahman. They both committed criminal offenses concealing the money. They were sued on the charge.”

“Enamul Basir is trying to flee the country, destroy important evidences and influence witnesses of the case. He might destroy important evidences and disrupt investigation process if he secures bail. So, he should be incarcerated until the end of the investigation,” According to the petition.
