Entire country declared vulnerable to coronavirus infections

The health directorate has announced that the entire country is vulnerable to coronavirus infections.

A notice, signed by Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), has been issued in this regard on Thursday (April 16).

"Bangladesh has been declared at risk of infection under the Infectious diseases (Prevention, Control and Elimination) Act 2018," the notice said.

"It will not be possible to control the spread of the virus if physical distancing cannot be ensured," the notice read.

It has become evident to the director general of the DGHS that coronavirus or COVID-19, announced as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), has already spread across the the world, killing more than one lakh people and affecting lakhs of people. The virus has also spread to many areas of Bangladesh. In order to contain the transmission of coronavirus in the country, the entire country has been declared vulnerable to coronavirus infections, it further mentioned.

As no medicine has yet been invented for the virus, physical distancing can only be a pissible way to combat the virus, it cited.
