Ershad to announce leaving grand alliance Monday

District Correspondent, CHITTAGONG, Nov 17: Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad said his party would announce leaving the ruling grand alliance formally through a press confernece on Monday morning.
He said this to a private television channel in Chittagong on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, Ershad asserted that his party would take part in the coming election forming an alliance and fight against the government in the polls.
`We will take part in the election forming a new alliance and fight against the present ruling grand alliance,` he said after holding a meeting with Hefajat-e-Islam chief Allama Ahmed Shafi at Hathazari Madrasa in Chittagong on Sunday.
Ershad reached Hathazari Madrasa at 11.45am and started the meeting at 11.48am.
Jatiya Party leaders Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud and Ziauddin Bablu accompanied Earshad.
After the meeting Ershad told newsmen, “We went there to seek blessings and he gave me his blessings."
Hefajat leaders told newsmen, “Ershad has assured them of considering their 13-point demand if Jatiya Party comes to power in future”.
Hefajat will not join any alliance and participate in election as a political party, Hefajat leaders also said.
