Ershad’s body at Kakrail office

Senior Correspondent: The body of Jatiya Party Chairman and former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad was taken to the party’s central office at Kakrail in the city around 12.00pm on Monday.

Earlier, the second namaz-e-janaza of Ershad was held at South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Monday morning.

Thousands of people attended the namaz-e-janaza that took place around 10.52am.

The third namaz-e-janaza will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Asar prayer today.

His body will be kept at the mortuary of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at night.

On Tuesday morning, the body of Ershad will be taken to Rangpur by helicopter.  The fourth namaz-e-janaza of Ershad will be held at Rangpur Zila School ground or Eidgah ground after Zhur prayer. Later, the body will be returned to Dhaka in afternoon, and HM Ershad will be buried at Army Graveyard with state honour and under the supervision of Army.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Ershad was held at Central Mosque of Dhaka Cantonment after Zuhr prayer on Sunday.  

HM Ershad breathed his last at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka at 7:45am on Sunday.

HM Ershad was the founder chairman of Jatiya Party.  He was elected parliament member from Rangpur-3 constituency in the eleventh parliament.  He was the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament before his death.

The 90-year-old former President was suffering from myelodysplastic syndrome or a low level of haemoglobin in his blood including infections in his lungs and kidneys.
