Ex-DG of Islamic Foundation Shamim Afzal dies

Shamim Mohammad Afzal, former director general (DG) of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh (IFA), has passed away on Thursday night (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un).

He was 65.

He breathed his last at 10:20 pm while undergoing treatment at the Central Hospital in the capital. 

Earlier around 10 pm, Shamim Afzal was admitted to the hospital as his physical condition deteriorated at his Mohammadpur residence in the capital. 

He had been suffering from cancer for long. 

Misbahur Rahman Chowdhury, governor of the Islamic Foundation's Board of Governors, confirmed his death. 

Shamim Afzal left behind his wife, a daughter, relatives and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death.
