Ferdousi Priyabhashini passes away

Staff Correspondent: Noted sculptor and freedom fighter Ferdousi Priyabhashini died of cardiac arrest at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday noon.

She was 70.

Saiful Islam Lenin, public relation officer of Labaid Hospital confirmed the matter.

Priyabhashini was born on 19 February 1947 in Khulna.  She was the first one to publicly announce herself as Birangona, a term coined by father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the rape victims of the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.The government awarded her Independence Day Award in 2010.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep shock at the death of Ferdousi Priyabhashini.
