Ferry service on Kathalbari-Shimulia route suspended

Ferry service along the Shimulia-Kathalbari river route has been suspended due to an unusual surge in the currents of the Padma River and poor navigability.
The ferry service was suspended around 8:00pm on Tuesday after Ro-Ro ferry Birsrestho Jahangir got stuck to a hidden shoal of the Padma River on the route.
Marine Engineer of BIWTC Shimulia Ghat Ahmed Ali informed this.
About 500 vehicles have got stranded on both sides, causing untold sufferings to the passengers.
Two rescue ships are trying to recover the ferry but it was not recovered till 10am on Wednesday when the report was filed.
